Our Impact

People, Places, and Planet

Mountain Housing Opportunities is the most productive nonprofit affordable housing provider in Western North Carolina. We’ve been building affordability for generations by constructing and preserving homes and creating pathways to equitable homeownership. Since 1988, MHO has financed and developed more than 1,400 affordable apartments, helped more than 500 families and individuals achieve homeownership, and provided safety-related home repairs to more than 5,000 homeowners.

The work that MHO leads in the region—in building and preserving housing affordability—has never been more relevant than it is today. Explore the positive, long-lasting impacts that MHO helps to create in partnership with the people and the communities we serve.

Building Climate and Community Resilience
Mountain Housing Opportunities has long been committed to providing housing that is not only affordable but environmentally sustainable. Our green building practices create healthier homes that make a big difference in the quality of life of residents and the long-term viability of each development.

One thing that is very important to us is the dignity of a place that you live. If you work in our community you should be able to live here and in a safe, attractive, affordable home in a good neighborhood. And if you retire or if you become disabled this should be true.”

– Scott Dedman
Founder and former CEO
