Maple Crest Apartments at Lee Walker Heights transformed Asheville’s oldest public housing complex into a 212-unit mixed-income neighborhood, replacing the original 96-unit 1950s community. Completed in 2021 through a partnership between MHO and the Asheville Housing Authority, the site now offers 96 deeply affordable units alongside 116 workforce and subsidized housing units. Located near Biltmore Avenue, residents have easy access to downtown, transit, hospitals, and the River Arts District. Amenities include 9,000 square feet of common areas, Energy Star appliances, on-site parking, and mountain and city views. The project was funded by a coalition including Bellwether Enterprise, the City of Asheville, Buncombe County, NEF, and NCHFA, and built by WeaverCooke Construction.
