Groundbreaking Ceremony for Balsam Edge
On Thursday, March 5th, 2026, MHO celebrated the groundbreaking of Balsam Edge, a 84-unit affordable housing community off Howell Mill Road in Waynesville! This is MHO’s first-ever project in Haywood County, and the 24th affordable housing complex developed by MHO since 1995. The development will offer 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom homes serving renters who earn between 40% and 60% of Area Median Income (AMI). Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed by the winter of 2027.
Special thanks to our community partners who attended the groundbreaking, including Balsam Edge’s financing partners from Bellwether Enterprise, CAHEC, CFWNC Pigeon River Fund, Dogwood Health Trust, NCORR and Haywood County, the NC Housing Finance Agency, NeighborWorks America, and Self-Help Credit Union Ventures Fund. Housing Studio is the project’s architect, Civil Design Concepts is the civil design partner, and WEAVERCOOKE is the construction partner and general contractor.
