2025 Building Hope

Date:October 15, 2025
Venue/Location:The Radical Hotel

We are incredibly grateful for this year’s BUILDING HOPE: An Evening for Affordable Housing, hosted at The Radical Hotel in Asheville’s River Arts District for a special “RAD edition”. Thank you to everyone who attended! Guests heard powerful stories of resilience and how your support helps build homes, neighborhoods, and thriving communities, especially as we continue long-term recovery one year after Tropical Storm Helene.

Stories like those of Erin, Jessie, Judi, Ricardo, and Steve remind us of the strength it takes to rebuild, and that having a safe, stable home matters more than ever.

“Everybody deserves a place to call home. It’s a place to call your own. It’s a place to feel safe. It’s a place to feel secure. It’s a place to make memories. It’s your home.”

-Steve J. EHR Client

Additionally, we were pleased to be joined by Amy Michaelson Kelly of RADbiz, Jeffrey Burroughs of RADA, and Lisa Raleigh of RiverLink. We were grateful for the warm RAD welcome and some inspiring updates about recovery, collaboration, and long-term resilience for one of Asheville’s most unique neighborhoods!

The most significant contributing factor to our lack of affordable housing in our region is that housing supply has not kept up with demand. Lack of supply affects all of us, but it causes the most acute harm to the individuals and families who earn low to moderate incomes. The effects of housing instability are well-documented, and those harms reverberate throughout our community. Simply put, an adequate housing supply is a requirement for a sustained and successful recovery.

While we navigate our region’s housing crisis and the long-term recovery from Helene, it is important to remember that each new affordable home we build and each existing home we preserve makes a tremendous impact on the lives of the people who live right here. These positive impacts are felt throughout our communities and across generations.

At Building Hope, we raised over $127,000!

There is still time to give! Your gift strengthens recovery efforts in our communities and supports MHO’s work to build and improve homes, neighborhoods, and lives. Last week’s event kicked off our Fall Giving Campaign, and we are excited to share that our partners at First Citizens Bank will match all donations dollar-for-dollar until we hit $25,000. Donate now to double your gift in support of affordable housing!
