June is shaping up to be an award-winning month for Mountain Housing Opportunities. Scott Dedman, MHO’s President and Executive Director, accepted the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Public Service Award and MHO’s East Haven Apartments received CAHEC’s 2023 Development of the Year Award.
Congratulations to Scott Dedman, MHO’s President and Executive Director, who received the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Public Service Award. Scott accepted the award to a standing ovation at the Chambers’ 2023 Annual Meeting in mid-June which was held at the Omni Grove Park Inn. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to the community through involvement, service, or motivation to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Buncombe County. We invite you to view the video produced by the Chamber that features Scott as well as MHO Board Chair, Charlie Owen, here: https://tinyurl.com/yv4tznpd

CAHEC is a nonprofit tax credit syndicator that helps develop and foster healthy neighborhoods by raising equity capital and investing in affordable rental housing and community revitalization. The group holds annual conferences that include recognition of outstanding work, including 2023’s Development of the Year Award, MHO’s East Haven Apartments. Geoffrey Barton, VP/Director of Real Estate Development accepted the award on behalf of MHO at the CAHEC Conference in Raleigh in early June. We invite you to check out the video CAHEC produced for this year’s award that features residents of East Haven as well as staff and partners.
East Haven is a 95-unit affordable multifamily development that is home to a diverse community of nearly 200 residents, including families, older adults, veterans, and people living with disabilities. Many thanks to our financial partners CAHEC, the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, the Asheville Regional Housing Consortium, Buncombe County, Centrant Community Capital, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, and First Citizens Bank. Special thanks to Dogwood Health Trust for providing funding to create two safe pedestrian crossings for residents. East Haven would still be in the planning stages were it not for the great work of the architects at Housing Studio as well as WeaverCooke Construction, who endured COVID-related material and supply chain issues. We are appreciative of Partnership Property Management, who set a new record for lease up by achieving 100% occupancy in just 3 months. As always, we are grateful to the residents who call East Haven home.
MHO graciously acknowledges the staff, leadership, Boards of CAHEC and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, and all others honored alongside MHO this year. Cheers!
