MHO’S Essential Home Repair Program Accepting Applications

Oct 22, 2024 | Essential Home Repair, News

For the past 36 years, Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO) Essential Home Repair (EHR) program has provided more than 5,000 health and safety-related home repairs to local, low-income homeowners. MHO recognizes the need for home repairs is now greater than ever as our community works to recover from the devastation brought by Hurricane Helene. Whether you’re dealing with an urgent home repair issue, a repair that you’ve needed for quite some time, or hurricane damage, our EHR team is here to help you feel comfortable in your home again. All who may be eligible are encouraged to apply by calling 828-254-4030 or by downloading our application form.

You may be eligible for the program if you own and occupy your home AND are either 62 years of age or older, handicapped or disabled, a single parent/guardian with small dependent children, or living with five or more people in your household that includes three small dependent children. Additionally, your household must fall BELOW the limits established for the program. Learn more about the Essential Home Repair program. Eligible repairs include accessibility improvements, electrical, plumbing, roof repair, and furnace repair.

Like many organizations, MHO is still navigating the available disaster recovery resources, which are constantly evolving and may impact eligibility and the types of repairs that qualify. Due to changing conditions, we encourage you to apply for assistance even if you don’t believe you qualify. As more information on disaster relief funds becomes available, MHO will update our communities through our website, press releases, and social media channels. Our hope is that we can offer more assistance through disaster recovery resources to address repair issues that usually are not eligible. All repairs will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Every person deserves to feel safe and secure in the place they call home, especially during this unprecedented time.
