Cyclists from the Bike & Build (www.bikeandbuild.org) organization recently volunteered their skills at Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO) Self-Help Homeownership homes in Swannanoa. Part of the group will also volunteered in Hendersonville. Bike & Build organizes cross-country bicycle trips that benefit affordable housing groups. This particular group of cyclists travels from Manteo, NC, to San Diego, CA, to help with building projects and to raise awareness for the affordable housing crisis across the United States.

During NeighborWorks Week, MHO and other NeighborWorks organizations across the country will mobilize tens of thousands of residents, business people and government officials in a week of neighborhood change and awareness. Organizations will rehab and repair homes, paint and landscape properties, conduct neighborhood tours, recognize successful partnerships and host a number of events that educate, train and inform.

MHO is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of more than 240 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In 2015, the NeighborWorks network helped nearly 356,000 individuals and families with affordable housing and counseling. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities
